ATEME:
Distributing live 360 TV at home is a hot topic of today, it has a lot of challenges from production to distribution. Live360TV is a research collaborative project, led by ATEME, composed of French high tech companies and research institutes:
- Aviwest for the portable live video contribution
- Kolor and INRIA for the 360 capture and the stitching
- ATEME for the live high-quality encoding and packaging for the distribution
- Arkamys for high quality ambisonic audio capture and rendering
- Telecom ParisTech for a portable VR playback (from Mobile to Television devices).
On booth 8.F27, the project aims at demonstrating an end to end demonstration from capture to devices with an immersive video and audio top quality. The demonstration will rely on an OTT distribution of a high quality 360 video TV with advanced audio and video consumption techniques for bandwidth reduction based on “tiling”. We will be demoing a live 360 TV with ambisonic sound and high 360 resolution.
This project is supported by the French government, local collectivities from Bretagne and Region Rhones alpes.

Fraunhofer:
Live End to End Streaming of VR360 10K Video with MPEG-OMAF and HEVC Tiles
Streaming high-quality VR360 panoramic video with resolutions up to 10K x 4K consumes large amounts of bandwidth. Moreover, the encoded video requires decoding capabilities beyond 4K video at the receiving side, e.g. on VR glasses with a mobile phone. Fully standardized tile-based streaming solves these issues by spatially segmenting the panoramic video into tiles. Each tile is encoded with HEVC at the original high-definition and an additional low-definition resolution. The new MPEG-OMAF standard allows to package the HEVC tile streams in a way that the receiver, e.g. VR glasses or a TV screen, can request the high-definition tiles for the user’s viewport and low-definition tiles for the areas out of sight. The tiles are aggregated into a single HEVC compliant video stream and decoded with a legacy hardware video decoder on the end device.
At IBC 2018, Fraunhofer HHI showcases the world’s first standard-compliant end to end chain for live VR360 video streaming beyond 4K resolution. This includes high-resolution VR360 10K video capturing and live rendering from the Fraunhofer HHI Omnicam-360, tile-based live encoding with the Fraunhofer HHI HEVC encoder, packaging according to the MPEG-OMAF Viewport-Dependent Media Profile and high-quality playback on VR glasses and TV screens.

Volumetric Video Production and Workflow
Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute and VoluCap GmbH present a novel and innovative capture studio as well as a processing workflow for high quality volumetric video productions targeting future VR/AR media productions.
In June 2018, the first volumetric video studio at European mainland has been opened commercial productions in film park Potsdam-Babelsberg, Germany. Real persons are captured with multiple high-resolution cameras in a professional studio environment. A powerful processing suite automatically generates naturally moving dynamic 3D models, which can be integrated in AR/VR applications. The system supports diffuse or synchronized scenic lighting from any direction, automatic keying, and flexible multi-camera arrangement.
G-audio:
Adam Levenson, VP of Business Development of G-Audio Lab & VRIF Communications WG Co-chair, will discuss Augmented Reality Audio: the next generation of hearables on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the IABM Future Trends Theatre in the IBC 2018 Future Zone.

Qualcomm:
Qualcomm Technologies and THX would like to invite IBC participants to our suite at the Okura where we will be showcasing a broad array of spatial audio technologies. Qualcomm Technologies and THX will provide a demonstration of the THX Spatial Audio Platform with MPEG-H audio based comprehensive workflow that is engineered to accommodate production for simultaneous OTA, OTT transmission, as well as gaming.
We will demonstrate the use of cutting-edge ProTools plug-ins to create compelling immersive audio using a combination of HOA and Objects. An end-to-end broadcast workflow of VR with THX Spatial Audio using MPEG-H 3D Audio will be shown. Audio/Video will encoded by an off-the-shelf Ateme’ encoder, streamed to be rendered on a smart phone with a NextStreaming player and over head-mounted displays in real-time, also catering for interactive and personalized audio features – and simultaneously played back over a traditional TV. This emphasizes that audio produced using this workflow can cater for simultaneous delivery of live VR and linear TV programming.
THX will also be offering this set of tools for evaluation to interested parties.

TNO:
TNO is part of the consortium of VR Together. VR Together is a media project funded by the European Commission as part of the H2020 program. It aims at radically improving the experience by innovating in how media formats are used (i.e., how audio, video and graphics are captured, delivered and rendered at users’ homes) demonstrating a significant improvement of the feeling of being there together and the photorealistic quality of the content.
Together with the other consortium partners i2CAT, CWI, CERTH, Artanim, Entropy, Motion Spell and Viaccess-Orca, TNO will demonstrate the current state of the project. Join us for the demo at the I3 Media booth, Hall 8, stand B05 or contact vrt-all@i2cat.net.
TNO is coordinating the ITEA3 project ‘Media Orchestration from Sensor to Screen (MOS2S)’, where we collaborate with Dutch companies such as the Amsterdam ArenA, Bosch, Game On, Inmotio Object Tracking and KPN, as well as with Belgian partners Kiswe, Nokia and VRT, and Korean partners ETRI, Mooovr and Samsung. On the MOS2S booth at the IBC Future Zone, we demonstrate new technology which provides for an enriched experience for TV viewers and stadium visitors during live events, such as football matches and concerts. We showcase applications that make it possible for TV viewers and stadium visitors to receive additional information live during soccer games; both on the TV screen at home and on their smartphone or tablet. You can find the MOS2S project in Hall 8, Future Zone stand F10. To know more, please contact the project at info@mos2s.eu.
